Wow, Playboy and Penthouse are sure in the rear view mirror of today's porn experience for children and teens. I recently evaluated a young man (entering 10th grade) who has been hooked of foot fetish porn and Japanese anime porn for 5 years. The anime porn he prefers involves animated aliens with tentacles having sex with teen girls dressed in "school girl" garb (plaid dress, knee socks, etc.). I really cannot imagine how this young man is going to learn about 3d/healthy sex because he is so engaged in finding new porn that will produce greater levels of sexual excitement.
Due to fetish porn and tentacle porn (and incest porn, bestiality, etc.) it is critical for parents to talk to their children and teens about what they are watching. An open dialogue - in addition to monitoring -- is the key to helping the "cyber generation" make healthy choices online. Without an open and honest discussion children and teens will hide their porn preferences and view adults as the porn police. Don't get me wrong -- many children and teens (and adults) need to have the plug pulled -- but there is a much better chance of preventing "tentacle porn" from entering the life of a child if parents create an open "porn communication" channel early -- by third grade for sure.
